Hey guys! There are many, many things in this life I love. My wonderful family, awesome friends, fun adventures and a God who never ceases to amaze me. However, there is something else that I love and you don’t have to look too far into our pictures or pages to figure it out… Chalk paint. Chalk paint may seem like a relatively new thing to you, but it has been around since before the Renaissance and can be found in architecture and paintings from then until now. As far as today's application goes, it requires very little, if any, preparation. Yup, that means little to no sanding, no priming, no solvents. It's easy to use, the brands I use have ZERO- VOCs and comes in a huge assortment of colours. Bang for your buck and time saved. What more could you want from a product?
I’m sure all of you can agree when I say that there is something truly special about having something in your home that you've created. It allows you to be able to tell your story, your way. So now I would like to challenge you a bit… Next time you need a new piece of furniture, consider buying something used and painting it or make one of your old pieces into something completely new. Your local Sally Ann, flea markets, Re-Store or curbside sales may just have the perfect item you need (adding a little elbow grease for cleaning!). The costs of the items will vary depending on what you're going for but the cost of the chalk paint is very economical (especially during our current sale- whoop whoop!) and a little goes a long way. Overall, you will end up with an item that you can be really proud of for a fraction of the cost. Ahem...when is the last time you bought a custom painted kitchen table for $60?!
I know that painting an item can seem like a daunting task. I hear i from our customers all the time. So many ideas, or feeling like we're not creative enough can wreak havoc on our nerves and make what is supposed to be a fun and rewarding task into on that is better being put off until never. Here's my advice: just go for it! What's the worst that can happen? Chalk paint is easy to work with, and can always be painted over if you're really unhappy with the result (which you won't be). The paints in our shop come with a super-helpful how-to guide/brochure that break down each step into manageable bites.
And ooh the colors!! Peacock for some bright fun, Fireworks Red for the modern home or Liberty, Voyage, Smoke Signal (I could go on and on...) if you are looking for a more subdued grey hue. Right now we have a sale on in our shop on the American Chalk/Mineral Paint line. 35% off pots, quarts and sealers while supplies last (and they're going fast!). Stay tuned in the next wek or so as we will be carrying a new line: Wise Owl Chalk Synthesis Paint. Both are eco-friendly, zero VOC's and of excellent quality (I only use the best and only want the best for you!)
And if all of that doesn’t get your creative juices flowing, send us a note and we will be right by your side! Whether it be advice, inspiration or encouragement, we just love working with you. If you want a chance to work with us directly, we also host some Chalk Style Paint Workshops in the Annapolis Valley. If you want to be the first to know about those workshops as well as receive our weekly blog make sure to subscribe to our newsletter (don’t worry guys, we won’t inundate your inbox!). Cheers and Happy Painting!
